Description

Pectoralis implants can be used to augment the male chest wall. Implants can be used to provide additional projection of the chest wall enhancing the appearance and often times the self image of the patient.

The specifics of the operation vary from patient to patient. During the consultation with the patient, Dr. Pousti discusses the amount of augmentation that the patient desires. The preferred shape of the chest wall is also discussed with the patient. Pectoralis implants have been very successful in allowing the patients to achieve increased fullness in the chest area. This operation may serve to correct a congenital deformity or tear of the pectoralis muscle. With adequate pre-operative preparation, attention to detail intra-operatively, and attentive post-operative care, patient satisfaction after this operation is extremely high.

The Surgical Procedure

The procedure takes 2 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. Generally, the procedure is done through an incision in the axillary (armpit) area. The silicone implants are placed underneath the pectoralis muscle.

What To Expect After Surgery

Rest. The chest will feel somewhat sore for the first few days. This should abate very quickly and by the end of the first week you should be comfortable.

Resumption of Physical Activity

Patients are often back to work 1-2 weeks after the procedure. No exercise of sports for 2-6 weeks.

In a week or so it will be one year since I had my surgery, and I thought I’d drop you a line just to let you know how I’m doing. Yes, I’ve put back on a bit more weight, but I’ve also spent a lot of time in the gym, so I’m hoping that it’s mostly muscle. And the compliments that I started receiving about my appearance last summer just keep coming. In fact, for some reason, a lot of people have just noticed my chest for the first time last month, right after the holidays. Of course, the compliments are really gratifying (and deserved….hey, I’m pleased with the way I look!). Anyway, at age 42 I’m probably in the best shape of my life. And I owe it all to you…the lipo and implants really got me motivated to get in shape and diet properly, and I haven’t wavered from that all year. Once again, thanks for everything. And I really wish I had gotten all this done 10 or 15 years ago………..I thought of you today, so I thought I’d drop you a quick line. This morning I was taking a hike (bare-chested) when I passed someone sitting on the side of the trail who shouted out, “Hey man, great pecs! I mean it! Awesome!”. Of course, all I could think was “Thank you, Dr. Pousti!”. Of course, this wasn’t the first time I’ve heard that comment; I’ve heard it quite a bit, actually, over the last year and a half since my surgery. But I just wanted to send you a quick thanks again.

Attached is a photo of me from last month. I’ve blanked out my face, so feel free to show it to any patient who might be interested in the sort of procedures I had. You’ll notice that, in the last year and a half, I’ve managed to keep my stomach nicely flat, and my muscle tone is vastly improved. And I think the chest looks better than ever (I’m not sure why…maybe the implants have settled, or maybe it’s just the additional muscle I’ve put on). Also, I just turned 43, but over the previous year I’ve had more woman flirting with me than all the previous 41 years put together (which I find highly amusing and gratifying). Anyway, thanks again!
