La Jolla/San Diego Cosmetic Surgeon Dr. Tom Pousti talks about Pectoralis Excavatum Repair
At Pousti Plastic Surgery in San Diego, we believe your health, wellbeing, and most importantly, your safety should never be compromised when choosing to correct any chest wall condition. In order to correct pectus excavatum with breast implants, finding a reputable plastic surgeon with impeccable skill and an understanding of how breast augmentation for this specific condition should be performed is of the utmost importance.
In pectus excavatum, also known as funnel chest, the sternum (breastbone) is depressed relative to the rest of the chest wall. Breast implants can be used to camouflage mild to moderate pectus excavatum. No matter where you decide to have your pectoralis excavatum repair, make sure your surgeon has experience, and that your safety and comfort are your surgeon’s primary concern.
Dr. Pousti has considerable experience with using breast implants to improve the appearance of the chest wall for patients with pectoralis excavatum.

Pectus Excavatum Repair Procedure
Breast augmentation to repair pectus excavatum takes approximately two hours. During your consultation at our San Diego or Temecula/Murrieta office and after a thorough examination, Dr. Pousti will discuss every detail of your breast augmentation, including the exact size and type of breast implants he will use and their relative advantages. This procedure to correct pectoralis excavatum is performed on an outpatient basis at our surgical center in San Diego under general anesthesia. By positioning the correct size/shape of breast implants on the chest wall, the pectus excavatum is camouflaged nicely giving the patient’s breasts the appearance of “deep cleavage”.
What to Expect After a Breast Augmentation
for Correction of Pectoralis Excavatum
Before/After Correction of Pectus Excavatum with Breast Augmentation
Pain is usually relatively little, Bed rest, along with plenty of fluids, is necessary after surgery. Your chest will be sore. Dr. Pousti will prescribe appropriate pain management and muscle relaxant medications. Take your medication regularly and keep your office visits. Usually after a week, you will begin to feel back to normal. A brassiere and bandeau will be fitted for you during your first week of recovery. These will need to be worn for a month. You will not be able to shower until your sutures are removed. Initially, breast implants will appear to be slightly higher than normal and your breasts will be swollen. Over time, the breast implants will descend to a more natural position.

A few years ago, I consulted several Plastic Surgeons for correction of breast asymmetry, which had worsened significantly after breastfeeding my child. The asymmetry, along with my congenital chest deformity, pectus excavatum, made bra and bathing suit shopping (and wardrobe decisions) a nightmare! I was not comfortable with the Plastic Surgeons I spoke with and this discouraged me from looking further. They didn’t seem confident about taking my case! But 5 months ago, I decided to do some research online for my condition.
Dr. Pousti’s website came up during my search for pectus excavatum and breast augmentation (for correction for asymmetry). I read everything on his website and look at all the photos, not just for breast augmentation/corrections but for everything! It was the first time I looked at breast (and breast, and more breast) and liked everything that I saw! I decided to meet this man… Because of my breast asymmetry, I have always been self-conscious about my body, but Dr. Pousti and his staff made the consults seem so easy and natural. I asked a lot of questions over a series of office consults, and all of my questions were answered thoroughly. Dr. Pousti truly listened to what I wanted, which was to create some symmetry while having a natural result for my petite body frame. After meeting with Dr. Pousti, his staff and some of his patients, I can honestly say that became confident about the surgery itself and its out come.
Dr. Pousti and his staff fully prepared me for surgery and the recovery by telling me what to expect before, during and after. Everything went smoothly. I didn’t even take the full dose of pain meds, and although uncomfortable at times, felt good enough not to them. I think this may have helped reduced the nausea, because I only felt nauseous on the day of surgery.
I was happy with my results on the day of surgery, the week after the month after and now (almost) 3 months after. Dr. Pousti expertise has greatly improved my quality of life! Thank you! Ready for the Summer in San Diego
