Description

There are several variations of ear lobe repair surgery performed to either fix a torn, split, or stretched earlobe or to reduce the size. Some individuals are born with larger ear lobes and wish to have their ear lobe size surgically reduced due to self consciousness. Other individuals have split or torn ear lobes from either extended use of heaving earrings or pulling/tugging of the ear lobes, while some have stretched or gauged ear lobes from the continuing extension of an ear piercing. Either way all of these situations can be addressed most of the time through an earlobe repair procedure.

From the age of 15 to 25, I had plugs of some size in my ears. Over time, my career path changed and extreme body modification was no longer conducive to this. At one point, my ears held 1″ 1/4 (35mm) plugs/gauge/eyelets, etc. I had torn my fistulas(the ear hole itself) and had also “blown out” my earlobes( severe irritation/disfiguration based on too much stretching) It was time. I had my fun. Looked like a freak, but I had further aspirations and it was to time to close up the actual holes. They looked awful, sagged, and got made fun of occasionally. The Surgical Procedure

The operation takes approximately one hour to complete and is not painful. In most cases, the procedure is considered an in office procedure and performed with a local anesthesia.

What To Expect After Surgery

Discomfort or pain post-operatively is not common. Sutures are removed usually one week after the procedure.

Resumption of Activities

The patient can usually return to work after 3-5 days depending on work duties. No swimming or hot tubs until the incision has completely healed.
