Otoplasty (Ear Surgery) Patients

| This 36 year old nurse from San Diego California had been interested for many years in correcting the prominence of his ears (especially the left ear). His left ear stood farther away from his head than the right ear but also did not have the anti-helical fold.
There are several variations of deformity of the ears, each of which must be treated in a different manner. Basically, otoplasty is performed to correct excess protrusion of the ears and place them in a more normal, less conspicuous position. It should be noted that both ears are never exactly alike, even in the normal state, and that perfect symmetry is therefore not a reasonable expectation. The operation has no adverse effects upon the hearing mechanism.
Since he is in the medical field, he had done research for an experienced plastic surgeon who has performed many otoplasty surgeries and found Dr. Pousti. After meeting with Dr. Pousti, he felt very comfortable and proceeded with surgery.
Dr. Pousti marks the left ear and the anti-helical rim reconstruction that will be performed.
The red markings indicate where the reconstruction was performed with permanent internal sutures that will re-create the fold of the ear and also help set the ear back to a normal distance from the head.
Below is immediately after the recreation of the ear fold in the operating room.
Patient is extremely happy 1 month after ear surgery. The symmetry between the 2 ears is much improved and the patient is more confident with his look.
The patient sent the photo below via email. He is now 3 months post op otoplasty surgery and left sided helical rim reconstruction and extremely happy with his results.

| This 28-year old patient felt uncomfortable with the prominence of his ears. He met with San Diego Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Pousti at his Murrieta office to discuss cosmetic ear surgery.
The patient decided to undergo ear surgery (otoplasty) along with earlobe repair to close the holes in his earlobes.
The patient did not like how this earlobes appear to be stretched. Because of his profession, he wanted to have the earlobes repaired as well as the otoplasty.

| This 31 year old patient from San Diego, California was interested in fixing the symmetry of her ears with a procedure called an otoplasty. Otoplasty is an ear surgery that is performed to correct excess protrusion of the ears and place them in a more normal, less conspicuous position.
As you can see in the pictures the patient’s right ear is more projected. To create symmetry Dr. Pousti will perform otoplasty on the right ear only. The procedure consists of an incision on the back side of the ear, with the removal of a small segment of skin. The cartilage is exposed, and it is thinned or cut so that the ear will be placed in a normal position and have a normal configuration. Stitches are used to hold the cartilage in place and to close the skin incision.

The patient is now post surgery and is very pleased with the results of her ear surgeries.

| This 9-year old patient was uncomfortable with her prominent ears and wanted surgery to correct them. She was getting teased at school which made her not like going to school.
The patient didn’t like how the top of her ears pointed outward.
The patient’s mom researched ear surgery for her daughter and wanted to make sure she would have the surgery performed safely and found Dr. Pousti. The patient’s mom was glad to know that Dr. Pousti is a board certified plastic surgeon and was impressed with his experience. She was also happy to find out that Dr. Pousti only works with board certified anesthesiologists for his procedures.
Dr. Pousti corrected the patient’s antihelix fold, setting the top section back creating a more desirable ear shape.

He didn’t like how his ears protruded and wanted them set back more toward his head. He was concerned about them “looking normal”.

| This 24 year old patient from San Diego, California was very interested in ear surgery. She was uncomfortable wearing her hair up and always covered her ears with her hairstyles.
