One of the most asked questions regarding Breast Augmentation surgery is whether or not a patient can breast-feed afterward.

First and foremost you should always talk to your plastic surgeon regarding your future plans to breast-feed, that way you and your plastic surgeon can both work together to be able to achieve the best possible results without compromising your breast-feeding plans.

During a breast augmentation, it is extremely important that the dissection must be performed carefully so as to disrupt or interrupt the milk ducts as little as possible. The most important thing you must understand is that there are no guarantees that you will be able to breast-feed your baby, regardless if you have had a breast augmentation or not. Many women have had concerns about passing silicone if their implants were to rupture. If your implants were to rupture, it’s very important that you know that neither saline nor silicone implants can leak into your breast milk. There have been studies that silicone molecules are too large to pass through the milk ducts and breast gland tissue. Dr. Pousti has had many patients who have had breast augmentation surgery who have had success with breast-feeding afterward.

The patient is “scrubbed” with a Betadine solution to sterilize her abdomen prior to operating.

An incision is made from hip to hip, just above the pubic area. Each and every patient is different, so the incision will be made to tailor your specific body type, needs and wants.

Dr. Pousti detaches the skin from the abdominal wall.

As you can see, this patients abdominal lining and muscles were were ripped and torn, producing the bulge in her stomach. This is where Dr. Pousti came in to remove excess fatty tissue.

Dr. Pousti is suturing, repairing and tightening the muscles that were torn in the abdominal wall.

Drains are inserted which will help aid in the healing process.

The skin is then tightened by removing the flap of excess. The old belly button stalk is brought out through a new hole and sutured into place.

Dr. Pousti is “lining up” the two flaps of skin with staples, making sure placement and symmetry is correct. Then he removes the staples replacing them with sutures to close the incision.

Recovery:

A dressing and a compression garment are applied and worn, this helps any excess fluid from the site to drain. The drains are usually removed on average 1-3 weeks post-op.

Four Weeks Post-Operative:

The patient is doing well and recovering with no sign of infection or bleeding. Her incision is still very red, but will start to fade with time. The patient is excited with her results and happy she’s had no complications.

Two Months Post-Operative:

The patient is doing well. Her incision is starting to fade and will only get better as time goes by.

After surgery, you may be instructed to wear gauze dressing or bandage for a few days or up to several weeks to ensure that your ears heal in their new, corrected position. Sometimes a ski band/headband to cover the ears is worn at night to prevent the ears from bending during sleep. Straining, bending and lifting should be avoided during the early postoperative period. In many instances, you will be able to resume most of your normal activities within ten days or less. Most people return to work at 7- 10 days.

The Procedure:

As you can see, prior to the procedure  Dr. Pousti  marks the individual lines and creases of the lids in order to keep the scars as invisible as possible along these natural folds. The incision is made, and excess fat, muscle, and loose skin are removed(shown in the picture above). Fine sutures are used to close the incisions, thereby minimizing the visibility of any scar.

Four Weeks Post-Operative:

After only one month post-surgery this patient is very pleased with her results. Her eyelid incisions have healed nicely, she had no complications and loves her new look.

During this process he creates a “portfolio” of your pictures that he takes into the operating room on the day of your surgery.

Pre-Operative Appointment:

The medical history of the patient is reviewed, consent forms are signed, and prescriptions for post-op medications are given. Post-op instructions are discussed and “Before” pictures are taken. Dr. Pousti discusses size and placement of incisions ensuring the patient of the best results possible.

Pre-Operative:

This 24 year old patient from San Diego was interested in liposuction of the lower abdomen, lower back, flanks, and inner/outer thighs. After meeting with Dr. Pousti, she was sure he would give her the best result.

Markings:

Before each surgery, Dr. Pousti takes time to perform “markings” which prepares the patient and Dr. Pousti for the upcoming surgery. Dr. Pousti understands that every patient is unique with different body types and structure. Measurements are always carefully made to achieve the desired goal of the individual patient. Markings are then reinforced prior to surgery.

In the Operating Room:

By the day of the surgery, Dr. Pousti hopes that you will feel comfortable knowing that he has a good understanding of your goals. Some anxiety as well as excitement is to be expected.

Dr. Pousti performs the surgery in a fully licensed surgicenter with a compliment of caring nurses and board certified anesthesiologists. Dr. Pousti is with with you, holding your hand as you go to sleep.

Dr. Pousti takes time to study your pictures prior and during your operation, using them as a reference to achieve your anticipated goal.

Dr. Pousti uses every technique available to avoid complications such as infection, bleeding, scarring and loss of sensation. You will receive medications (antibiotics and anti-nausea) intravenously during the operation.

The Procedure:

During the procedure Dr. Pousti is very meticulous in sculpting and contouring her body, focusing on the patients problem area’s. The incisions for this procedure are very small, and they are placed in inconspicuous skin folds, often times leaving the patient’s scaring extreamly minimal.

Recovery:

Directly following your procedure, you will be wheeled into a recovery room where trained and skilled nurses are very attentive to you, making sure you are comfortable as you slowly awaken. It is very important to Dr. Pousti that you are taken care of and are as comfortable as possible. To ensure this, Dr. Pousti has made sure that the nurses there are ‘first class’ and exceptional at what they do.

One Week Post-Operative:

The initial week after surgery is the period where there may be some discomfort, pain and swelling. Although she is swollen, this patient is already loving the new changes in her body.

Three Months Post-Operative:

After three weeks of recovery, this patient is very pleased with her result and was glad she decided to make Dr. Pousti her surgeon.

Six Months Post-Operative:
