Video Testimonials from Patients working in the Medical Field
First and foremost I want to thank Dr. Pousti and his staff for such a positive experience. Prior to meeting Dr. Pousti I had undergone two breast augmentation surgeries. I had my first in 2005 and my second in 2007. In 2007 I maxed out what was the traditional “conservative” plastic surgeon’s recommendation with 800cc silicone implants. I loved the results but I went on to have two amazing daughters which I breastfed back to back in 2010 and 2011. My breasts needed some work. They weren’t as perky anymore and I had lost some of my own breast tissue from nursing. I also had lateral displacement of my implants. Basically, when I laid on my back my breasts went into my armpits which left quite a considerable space in my cleavage area. I also knew I wanted to go bigger. Here is when the research started-I met with my former plastic surgeon and his opinion was that I needed a full anchor lift and all the scarring that came with that. I felt it was overkill and was saddened by the recommendation but I booked my surgery trusting his advice. After more thought, I decided to look into the option of over filled saline implants and maybe a little “pocket tightening”. I first learned about Dr. Pousti from his AMAZING website. The testimonials and photos said it all. I knew I needed to rethink my decision and have a phone consultation with him. I emailed photos (frontal and side) and he got back to me via telephone very promptly. To my excitement he told me he thought I didn’t need a lift. He also was willing to go as big as was safe for my body. I canceled my other surgery and put down my deposit for my surgery in San Diego. The website and staff had wonderful recommendations on which hotels they recommended their patients stay at and the hotels even offered a discount for being his patient. I was also given the name of a great after surgery recovery nurse who went on to do a phenomenal job of taking care of me post op for the first 24 hours. When I met Dr. Pousti for my pre op the day before surgery I instantly knew I had made the right decision to have my surgery performed by him. He is such a skilled, caring and kind person. At my pre op he recommended I have internal sutures placed to correct my implant displacement and promised he would take great care of me. I am absolutely insanely in LOVE with my new breasts. I would never trust my body to another plastic surgeon after meeting Dr. Pousti. As a former model, I can tell you that I almost idolize the man for giving me back the breasts I had before having my children. I would recommend Dr. Pousti to anyone who wants the job done right. Flying out for surgery, especially alone, can be a scary thought but it is such a worthy investment. The moment you walk into his office-no matter the distance you have traveled-you will feel at home. Thank you Dr. Pousti for changing my body and my life.
To anyone considering breast augmentation or revision,
After realizing one of my large saline implants had ruptured and deflated I was frantic and anxious. The thought of replacing my implants had crossed my mind before this unexpected deflation, but now I knew I had to make a decision fast. I had actually looked at Dr. Pousti’s website before this had happened and was very impressed with what I saw. I read all the wonderful reviews from past patients and knew this was the doctor to see. So, as soon as I noticed my deflation I called his office to see if I could get an appointment the following day. The staff was wonderful and understanding of my situation, they made sure I had an appointment the following day. As soon as I met Dr. Pousti I felt at ease with my situation. Not only is he very professional, but also very personable. He was very thorough in asking me how I wanted my breasts to look and feel like. My old DD saline implants were very large (770 cc), heavy, hard, and sat high on top of my chest. I told Dr. Pousti I wanted a very very natural look, a natural slope with no big bumps high on my chest. I wanted a smaller implant that would look classy and to keep people guessing if I had actually had breast implants at all. As an avid running a smaller breast size would also fit into my active lifestyle. While in the office I was shown photo albums to get an idea of the look I wanted. I also met several post op patients who were all extremely happy with their results and experience with Dr. Pousti. After my consultation I knew Dr. Pousti was the Plastic Surgeon for me. The most amazing part of this whole experience is that Dr. Pousti and his staff were able to
scheduled my surgery for the very next day. When I arrived at the surgery center the next day Dr. Pousti again went over my goals, placement of where I wanted the implants to sit on my chest and a size that would suit my body. I knew I wanted large C/ small D silicone implants and I felt totally confident he would create this natural look for me. I have to say I had no complications, zero pain ( I did not even take prescription pain meds), and was back to my normal lifestyle the next day. Dr. Pousti himself even called me over the weekend to see how I was doing. His wonderful staff called me every day for a week to make sure I was doing okay and to see if I had any questions. Even a nurse from the surgery center called to see how I was doing. I have nothing but great things to say about Dr. Pousti and his staff.
As a Registered Nurse I understand how important it is to receive superior care and this is what I experienced from Dr. Pousti and his staff. I now have 445 cc silicone 34 D natural looking breasts. If I ever decide I need or want another surgical procedure, Dr. Pousti is the only one I will see. I highly recommend Dr. Pousti to anyone wanting to change his or her appearance for the better.

Medical Student Testimonial:
I’ve always been interested in reconstructive plastic surgery, so I was extremely excited to finally do some shadowing in this field as a medical student. A surgical selective immediately after anatomy was also something I had been looking forward to, since I would actually understand the relevant anatomy of the cases worked on. I spent two weeks shadowing Dr. Tom Pousti, in a private cosmetic surgery practice.
Since this was a private cosmetic practice, I was unsure of what to expect. Sure, cosmetic surgery gets a bad rap for being entirely superficial and shallow procedures for the wealthy, but Dr. Pousti had incredible qualifications. Would my experience be entirely simple procedures like breast augmentation, with no educational value, or would Dr. Pousti pimp me into oblivion? As it turned out, neither. Dr. Pousti started on the first day by doing some light pimping, to gain a sense of my educational background, and then modulated the experience to be appropriate for my current level in medical school. Each day, Dr. Pousti would give me a reading assignment relevant to plastic surgery, and in the OR would pimp me at a reasonable level on both the case and the reading assignment, often asking me to draw connections between the two. For example, during breast augmentations, we covered the innervation and blood supply to the breast, hormone systems involving lactation (although I haven’t taken endocrinology yet, this was very informative), and possible complications of the procedure. During rhytidotomy, we covered the superficial musculoaponeurotic system, sensory and somatic innervation to the face, complications of the procedure, and even the anatomy and formation of rhytides. This type of immediately practical, hands-on education is how I learn best – thanks to Dr. Pousti, I have learned quite a bit about reconstructive techniques that could be immediately applicable for me on my upcoming emergency medicine and trauma rotations.
We also spent about half of the time in the office, doing consultations, pre-op visits and markup, and post-op care, as well as some office procedures. Because of the nature of cosmetic surgery and the reasons that patients come into the clinic, the consults have a heavy component of history-taking, and more importantly, psychological workup. Dr. Pousti made sure to explain his thought processes during pre-op markups, and during post-op visits explained all the concerns for possible complications and healthy recovery. I had the chance to observe multiple office procedures as well, during which Dr. Pousti explained lines of least tension, scar revisions, and all manner of plasty and suturing techniques. But possibly one of the most rewarding parts of my rotation was working with patients who came from other physicians to Dr. Pousti, because of complications from their procedures. These patients were incredibly polite, and loved the idea that students could be learning from what had happened to them. In one particular case, Dr. Pousti and the patient both allowed me to observe the patient’s case from consultation to post-op visit, and due to the unique nature of the case and the rare complication involved, they were both willing to allow me to write a case report! It was incredibly rewarding to see just how much the patient’s condition improved after surgical treatment, and she gave me strong encouragement to continue learning about how to prevent complications from occurring in patients.
Overall, I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities I had during my two weeks with Dr. Pousti. He has exceptional teaching skills, and a knack for prompting students to teach themselves by asking the right questions, and knowing exactly what reading assignments to give. I have the opportunity to be published as a first-year medical student, and had a large amount of hands-on experience and detailed surgical technique training. I would strongly recommend this rotation to other students.
Nurse Thank You Card:
I am a board certified M.D. and surgeon and I just had my consultation with Dr. Tom Pousti for breast augmentation. I have considered the surgery for several years, but my family and profession always took precedence. Now that I am “stable” (i.e. not planning more pregnancies and no longer in training), I am ready to proceed. While their are many upsides to being a physician and having a surgical procedure done, the downside is my fear is exaggerated as I know every single possible risk or complication! Updated on 9 Nov 2012:
I am a physician who would like to preserve my privacy, but the greatest thank you I can give Dr. Tom Pousti is to write this review.
I would STRONGLY recommend any patient considering breast augmentation to schedule a consult with Dr. Pousti.
He is an exceptional surgeon, an ethical physician, passionate about his profession and humble about his phenomenal work.
After much research and waiting, it was due to this combination of qualities that I chose Dr. Pousti as my plastic surgeon.
AND I have no financial or professional gain by telling you this info – my relationship with Dr. P is as a patient only!
Also I want to thank all you lovely ladies who shared your story on Real Self.
You are so sweet and supportive, I couldn’t imagine going through this without you.
I only told my husband and friend who helped take care of me after the surgery.
So here are my numbers:
I am 38 years old, I have two children who I breast fed both for 8 months.
I am 5′7″ and weigh 120 pounds.
Dr. Pousti placed 338cc Naturalle Silicone, under the muscle, periareolar both sides (Keller Funnel Method).
Dr. Pousti asks for you to bring photos of what you like and dislike.
I will upload my collage that I gave him the day of my surgery.
I am at post-op week two and couldn’t be happier.
I worked out as usual (for me 4 -5 days/week; mostly aerobic stuff with some weights)
I did take the Make Me Heal Plastic surgery suppliments 2 weeks before the surgery: $60 on Amazon
And also took Arnica Montana 30x 250 tablets: I took 4 pills four times a day 1 week before surgery and am still using: $8 on Amazon
I read and re-read Dr. Pousti’s website:
About the Doctor
Breast Augmentation : ALL of the links (I esp liked the pre/post-op/choosing your size links)
FOLLOW my Journey from Start to Finish (a link on the left side of his webpage) – I really liked this one
In the Operating Room
And of course his Before and After Photos
Also enjoyed this from Real Self:
My husband took the kids for 2 days after my surgery (done on a Friday and kids and hubby were back on Sunday) and my friend took care of me while the family was away.
I took off 9 days total and feel great. I have a busy schedule (see about 35-40 patients/day and perform surgeries 1-2 times a week).
I started working out again at POD(post op day)#11, did the reclined bike and did a Zumba class POD#12!
I am still wearing my surgical bra – boo hoo! But will do as instructed (will need to wear for 4 weeks total) to keep them to continue to drop.
Sorry I am back to work and super busy but will try to give you more info/photos ASAP!
Good luck to everyone and again Thanks!
I found him on the internet. His website, yelp, realself, vitals, and healthgrades I can honestly say as a physician AND patient, Dr. Tom Pousti has won me over. I had my consult yesterday and was more than pleased with the experience. First he is double board certified in surgery and plastics. He has had 15 years experience with cosmetic surgery. He has worked with his scrub nurse and anesthesiologist for over 10 years in the same hospital (this is key – decreasing variables has been shown to increase success rate). He is married with 5 children (again the decrease of variable factors – i.e. his social life is stable). His staff is exceptional as well. Vanessa was very knowledgeable and friendly as well. Not only did she address my concerns about the risks of the procedure, she conveyed my message to Dr. Pousti regarding my husband’s hesitancy. I have been with my husband for almost 20 years and he prefers I do not have surgery. Dr. Pousti stated he has had many patients with similar spousal concerns and recommended he meet with my husband and I before making any decisions. This was a huge relief for me because it demonstrated Dr. Pousti and his staff understand my husband’s concerns and ultimately realize I need my spouse’s support. All I can say is I am more than excited to be seeing Dr. Pousti again in the near future.
Being a medical professional myself, I was very selective in choosing the right plastic surgeon for my breast lift. After consulting with three different surgeons in the Orange County area, I chose Dr. Pousti because of his extensive experience with breast lifts and his confidence in his work. He is very surgically skilled in addition to having great bed side manners. Not only did he deliver what he promised by doing a fabulous job on my breasts but his staff also went the extra mile in showing courtesy, professionalism, and an overall concern for me throughout my preop and postop experience. Dr. Pousti has enormous talent and uses his instinct as well as experience when suggesting what suits my body most. My husband loves my new look and compliments my breasts all the time. I have new confidence now and feel like a complete woman.

My sister had her breast augmentation done by Dr. Pousti. As I am in medical school and can thus better understand medical jargon, she thought it would be a good idea to have me along. I accompanied her to the initial consullt with Dr. Pousti, and I was immediately impressed by his friendly personality and the ease with which he communicated all the details of a breast augmentation. He was very attentive to my sister’s wishes as well as intuitive about her lifestyle and thus what type of augmentation would suit her well. I am in my last year of medical school so I have seen and worked with many different types of surgeons, and after meeting Dr. Pousti and hearing him communicate with my sister, I was so impressed! He is not only very down to earth and sincere, but truly professional and competent. I then accompanied my sister to her surgery and was her caretaker afterward. Knowing my familiarity with surgeries and medicine, Dr. Pousti offered to let me observe the case. He was so calm, very confident in his procedure, and the whole time was very detail oriented and thoughtful of my sister’s wishes. I am writing this review because I have the privilege of judging his excellence from a medical standpoint. I could not give anyone a higher recommendation. Dr. Pousti is fabulous!

Dear Dr. Pousti, Office Staff, and Surgery Staff at Alvarado Surgery Center,
This testimonial has taken some time for me to write because it’s hard for me to express in words how thankful I am for the care that you took of me before, during, and after my surgery. But please know that a day doesn’t go by that I don’t think what a wonderful job you have done.
From the first time that I met you, I have felt that I’ve known you for a long time. And your office staff are so welcoming, they could be old co-workers of mine too. I inteviewed 2 plastic surgeons before you, and with them I felt like I was just another job for them to do. Both of these other surgeons pushed for me to get very large breasts, and when I voiced some hesitation on their recommendations, I could sense that they tuned me out. They would rush in and out of their offices, and the office staff would barely say a word to me.
I had heard about you from various clients I had, and they showed me the amazingly beautiful jobs you had done for them. I was so happy when I came in to consult with you, but to be honest, my husband was a little more reticent. After conversing with you for a while, you truly did make me feel as though you were an old friend, and that you wanted to give me something that would make me happy. You definitely won over my husband that day. After my consultaton, both myself and my husband felt confident that you were the surgeon/artist that we had been looking for.
The day of surgery I was excited and nervous, but I knew I was in the right hands. To be able to go into surgery having complete confidence and trust in you is something that I wish every patient could have; and to know that you stocked different implant sizes in your surgery center was of great comfort to me too, since I knew you could try out different sizes on me during surgery in order to find the best fit.
But even before surgery, the Surgery Staff at Alvarado were so nice and made me feel so comfortable. The smallest thing, such as giving me a warmed blanket just prior to the surgery, made me feel more relaxed. I’ve been through other surgeries before, and I can attest that I never got a warmed blanket! I wish I could remember the names of the nurses caring for me, because they did a wonderful job in making me feel safe.
My droopy A-size breasts with the abnormally large and long nipples, and now a perfect DD. And thankfully, you recommended my nipple reduction! I would have never thought of that, and I can’t imagine how much more my nipples would have poked out of my clothes without having it done! In the past I had to wear heavily padded bras because my nipples were so long that you could see that they were poking through the bra. Now I can wear normal non-padded bras, I don’t need push up pads, and my clothes fit me so much better!
Last, but definitely not least, let me just say how great your office staff is. After my surgery, they checked on me frequently. I’m sure it’s part of their protocol, but when they called, I felt like we were just friends having a conversation, not that it was a job they had to do. The one thing that keeps me loyal to a business is friendly faces, polite manners, and great customer service. You have it all!
Ok, so I really did try to make this a short thank you/testimonial, and I did by not giving my whole life story, but like I said, it’s so hard to express every wonderful thing I have to say about you and your staff. If you ever need someone to speak to a potential client about how wonderful you are, feel free to send them my way! And please don’t move or go anywhere in the next 20 years because I know that this is just the beginning of a beautiful relationship!
