Liposuction Testimonials From Dr. Pousti’s San Diego Cosmetic Surgery Patients
Dr. Pousti is an excellent, extraordinary, superb surgeon. He performed abdominoplasty on me last year and I could not be more pleased; however, since my stomach is now flat, my flanks (love handles) now look huge. So, at my one-year check-up, we discussed a flank lipectomy/liposuction procedure. When I had the tummy tuck, Dr. Pousti told me to expect modest results. He is honest and does not try to “sell” you on an unrealistic outcome or more procedures. For me, the results were better than modest. In fact, I feel that are exceptional. When we discussed the flank lipectomy/liposuction, he said the results would be remarkable. Ok, sold! So, I am scheduled for my procedure tomorrow. I can’t wait. It is a much less invasive surgery and basically painless as there is no muscle involvement. I will be off work for 10 days. My husband will again care for me after the surgery. He is an excellent caregiver. I am excited to have the time off work and spend the time with my husband. Dr. Pousti is an outstanding surgeon that I highly recommend. At each appointment it is like visiting an old friend as he is kind, caring, and, as I mentioned, an extraordinary surgeon. There is a reason he receives 5 star reviews!!
I have had a pear shaped body since before puberty and my thighs, both inner and outer, have always been out of proportion with the rest of my body. After the birth of my second child I was on a regular exercise regimen and within a year was back at a size 2, but my thighs remained disproportionately bulky. Pregnancies and age had left my flank areas also with excess bulk that I could not reduce or tone, even when at or near my ideal weight.
I am a lawyer and a scientist and work in the local medical/biotechnology industry. I researched several local surgeons, some of whom I had been referred to by friends. In my research, Dr. Pousti’s name and reputation continually rose to the top of the group in all aspects – education, certification, experience, patient satisfaction and results. I made my consultation appointment with every intention of visiting at least two other doctors, but after meeting Dr. Pousti and his staff, I felt no need to look further.
From my first appointment, I found Dr. Pousti to be warm, knowledgeable, understanding, and candid. Risk was my top concern during the initial meeting; with two young kids at home, I needed to understand the extent of the risk before I could commit. Dr. Pousti fully disclosed the risk associated with liposuction surgery. Part of my job as an attorney is to read people and recognize when someone is holding back. I had no reservations with Dr. Pousti. I left my consultation appointment with the sense that I had full understanding of what my procedure would entail, the risk and what I could realistically expect from my results.
In terms of pain and recovery, there were no surprises. I had the procedure done on a Wednesday, was able to work from home a bit on Thurs/Friday and returned to the office the following Tuesday. Dr. Pousti personally checked in with me the evening after the surgery and the following day; his staff checked in with me every day after up until my one month post-op appointment. One week post-op, the remaining discomfort was manageable with Ibuprofen.
The swelling from liposuction does not fully resolve until months after the procedure, so I cannot yet report on my final results. It has been 6 weeks since my procedure and I am thrilled with my results so far. I am wearing skirts and other clothes that before the procedure I was too self-conscious to wear. We are headed on vacation for Labor Day Weekend and for the first time in my life I bought a bathing suit (in lieu of board shorts) to wear at the pool. The incisions are tiny dots that nobody would notice and I’m sure will eventually disappear completely. I have no excess skin or any other skin issue that reveals I have had liposuction.
During one of my pre-op appointments, Dr. Pousti was explaining what liposuction can and cannot achieve. With all due candor, he indicated that he may not be able to make me look like I did when I was 16. He was actually right, but not in the way he intended. Even though I don’t yet know what my final result will be, I now have contour and proportion that surpasses that which I had at 16.
Dr. Pousti & staff took excellent care of me when I had my tummy tuck, breast augmentation & liposuction procedures done back in 2008. After two pregnancies, breastfeeding, gaining 100lbs and then drastically losing weight, my body needed LOTS of help.
Thankfully, I found Dr. Pousti through a referral from good friend of mine who had her breast augmentation done with him & was extremely happy with her results. I had seen numerous plastic surgeons but for some reason it didn’t feel right (it’s kind of like the feeling you get when shopping for a wedding dress). So I thought I’d give this surgeon a try. However, I was hesitant at first because it was a T-H-R-E=E hour drive for me. But, after the first visit with Dr. Pousti I knew THIS was the one!
Vanessa was especially caring and attentive to my concerns. She was always pleasant to talk to & did her very best to accommodate me. Most importantly, she always made me feel welcomed Love that girl! Dr. Pousti is also very charming, honest and genuinely wants the best outcome for his patients.
I’m extremely pleased with my results. I went from an A to a full C, my tummy is flat (kangaroo pouch is gone!) and most importantly my confidence level & self-esteem is off the charts!
…7 years later I still feel and look great thanks to Dr. Pousti!
Thank you Dr. Pousti, Vanessa & staff for making this an extraordinary experience!
Dr. Pousti was very honest with what he could and would do to give me the best outcome. I am loving my result so far and can’t wait for it to get even better. He and his staff, especially Daisy are very nice and concerned about my well-being and they checked on me quite often. I only wish that I had gone to him for my thigh and calf lipo too.
I am 5 days post op today. I had muscle repair and liposuction with my tummy tuck, stage three breast lift, and implants with Dr. Pousti in San Diego, CA. I lift weights and love to workout, I work part time and I love to be out and about with my family. I am very happy with my choice so far and I cannot wait to see my final results and wear a bikini for the first time in years!!
Dr. Pousti has been wonderful throughout this whole process. I researched these procedures quite heavily and he has been ready and willing to answer each and every question or concern I have had. He visited me at home and has constantly made me feel comfortable. I have had no complications so far and I am feeling very blessed to be under his care. He is a great surgeon and a humble surgeon and I hope he will always stay that way.
I just got my breast lift and augmentation and Lipo on my arms and this is my 4 th day post op I feel good just a little sore but meds are helping a lot … Dr Pousti and his team are just so GREAT nice and caring just wonderful all around …I was a little nervous but more excited then anything …I gave Dr Pousti all my trust and he answered all my questions before surgery … I also gave him my goal pictures on a poster and I trusted him so much that I told him to make me look like the pictures as much as he could and I would let him decide on how much cc’s I would need ….He’s a great Dr I have lotts of friends that want to get surgery and Ive already recommended Dr pousti …it’s been an amazing experience thanks to Cindy for recommending Dr Pousti and thank u Daisy for calling me everyday to see how I was doing everything u told me to try helped …I couldn’t be happier and I can’t wait for Monday to maybe take a look at them I still haven’t took a peek ????????????
I love it that he’s there and he pays attention to what u want and hold your hand at bedside …made me feel secure
I had always been happy with the size of my breasts…36b…but over the years they were drooping so low there was no bra on the planet that was comfortable and my back and shoulders hurt all the time. I had thought about this procedure for four years and finally had enough and wanted to fix them before I turned 50. I knew if I just scheduled a date I would commit to it and be excited instead of scared. I consulted with three surgeons and chose Dr. Pousti based on his reviews, demeanor and assurance that he and his staff would take good care of me. He has worked with his surgical team for many years and that was also comforting. I also had lipo on lateral thighs and flanks to get rid of the muffin top! The day of surgery went very smooth and I was home before I really knew it. I am almost 8 weeks post op and doing well. I have lost 16 lbs since day of surgery, just from my diligent efforts to eat healthy to promote healing and walking daily. Dr. Poustis staff has been so kind during all my follow up visits, and Daisy called me every day for a week after surgery, even on the weekend, to check up on me and remind me to walk around and take deep breaths on a regular basis. Their office is very busy at all times, but somehow they make it all work and spend time with each patient. I know I am not at my final size yet for lipo results due to swelling, but I am already a couple sizes smaller! I am still healing but it’s going well and every day I am able to lift more and get back to my normal routine. This was my first surgery as an adult, and I surprised myself because I never really felt scared…I had total faith in Dr. Pousti and his team. Dr. Pousti, Daisy, his surgical team, and all the girls in the office are top notch and very kind and patient.
Hi I’m Lydia from Australia I travelled al the way to USA for XL breast implants who were done by Dr Pousti in SanDiego on 30march 2015. My breast are amazing and so great looking I never had any problems thanks to Dr Pousti. He’s by far the nicest and most genuine surgeon I’ve seen. I felt so comfortable after meeting him I booked straight in and got breast to die for. Dr Pousti was an amazing doctor made me feel so comfortable and happy to undergo my surgery- the out come was more then I expected
I am 40 years old and have been wanting a TT for as long as I can remember. I have three kids ages 10, 9 and 3. I have never had a flat stomach, it has always been uneven, a little flabby and it has never been tight and of course after three pregnancy’s it has only got worse. I am a relatively small person except that I have a stomach and back fat (typical apple shape). So with that being said I am super excited to have this but also nervous. I never really thought I would go through with it, but here goes nothing. My surgery is March 26th (in one week). I am having both a TT and back lipo. I’m nervous about the anesthesia more than anything else. And from what I have been reading I already cannot wait until the drains are removed. So send good wishes and prayers my way. Ill post pictures and an update after.
So I still cannot believe that I am actually doing this for myself. I keep trying to imagine next week at this time and how I will be feeling. I am getting nervous but keep looking at the reviews and how 96% of people say it was worth it. No pain no gain. I know it will be worth it and I am so excited!! I am also excited to be able to wear clothes and look great in them. No belly fat hanging over my jean, and just to be able to wear jeans without rubber banding the button closed. LOL I won’t miss that. I am feeling a little guilty however, I guess that is normal for a mom. I am ready to go. I have my prescriptions filled, my walker ready and going grocery shopping on Tuesday. Now to make sure I ask the doctor everything I need when he does my markings on Tuesday evening. My list thus far……1. what will my belly button look like? round, long, tear shape? ( mine is pretty round now and I like it but I heard someone mention that a round belly button was a dead give away that you have had a tummy tuck) Well I don’t want that! 2. Thin scar / Straight scar ( I am a symmetrical person, I like things even and to match up) 3. Belly button centered (this is a fear of mine that it won’t be centered, that would be awful). 4 Where are the drain holes going to be? (don’t want any more scares than need be). And that’s all I can think of for now.
Pre-surgery 5″2 and 140lbs. Pre-pregnancy I was 135 So I have never been that super thin person on the scale. I have always been able to hide weight pretty well and weigh more than I look. Most people would think I weighed at least 10 lbs lighter than I do. Until they see me in a bathing suit. Lol. For my wedding I weighed 125lbs and everyone thought I was a little too skinny and said to not loose anymore. Well I think you are the thinnest your going to get (not always, but for me I knew I was) on your wedding day. Anyway I did want to try and get to 135 before my surgery but I don’t want to be unrealistic either. I don’t want to kill myself loosing weight just for the surgery and then after surgery go back to a normal way of life. I don’t eat bad overall and I work out two to three days a week and after surgery I will continue to do the same. So the next photo’s I will post will be of my markings on Tuesday. Until then…
So I am moving around a little now. Walking hunched over but my stomach is not too sore. More bruised from the Lipo. That actually hurts more. Pain of course if someone makes me laugh. My mom has made me laugh so hard a couple of times that I thought I might die. However the only think I worried about was ripping my muscle repair. Sounds like that is hard to do so that makes me happy. The medicine has made me super tired so I have been sleeping a lot. I have my post op appointment on Thursday. Not sure if I want to look this time because I am not ready to see the bruising and scar yet. So pictures to come later. Overall feeling good today. Have to admit the hardest days are the two days after surgury. After that it’s all up hill. The healing really begins and you figure it doesn’t get worse that that.
Dr Pousti and Staff are absolutely excellent. I started looking for a surgeon in October 2012 and found many plastic surgeons to suit my needs but, only one surgeon that I could wholeheartedly put my trust in. From walking into the La Mesa office my comfort level was meet with friendly staff members and a team of professionals that made me feel like I was already a member of the family.
I’m a 43 year old male and have been unhappy with the extra tissue I had in my chest causing (man boobs) I also wanted to have liposuction around my flanks and lower back.
Dr Pousti was the third surgeon on my quest for excellence. I had originally gone in to see about getting chest implants to correct some asymmetry and gynecomastia and make my chest look fuller. After many suggestions from other surgeons I still needed the right guidance. Well I guess three was my lucky number.
My consultation with Dr P exceeded my expectations and I new before I left that I was choosing him to perform my surgery. I had my surgery one month and one week ago and I couldn’t be more ecstatic.
Since I didn’t have any hard tissue in my chest I was able to get away with only liposuction removing fatty tissue around and under my nipples to flatten out the chest area removing my (man boobs) I also had my waist ( Flanks) done as well.
After surgery, I took three days off and was back to work Monday morning. After having my dressings removed one week later a dramatic difference was evident and I haven’t stopped smiling since. I kept thinking to myself “if it looks this good now, just think how I’m going to look after I am completely healed”.
I’ve kept up with the compression which I highly recommend for swelling and have no issues. Beside feeling soar I have had a wonderful recovery and look forward to my final results in a few months.
Eyelid Surgery / Liposuction/Breast Revision:
“Words cannot express how happy I am with the results of my breast augmentation, liposuction and eye lid surgery! The day of the consultation, my husband and I were so surprised how comfortable it was talking with Dr. Pousti about the procedures. He answered all of my questions patiently and thoughtfully and put me completely at ease. At the end of the consultation we both knew immediately he was the right surgeon for me, and scheduled the surgery. I couldn’t have found a better doctor and staff, all of them make me feel so comfortable at all times, and that made this experience and my results better than I could have ever imagined! My husband and I truly enjoy going to his office for post-op visits as everyone has been so warm and caring from the very beginning. Special thanks to Margie and Vanessa for their caring and kindness. I wish my primary physician and nurses treated me this well! Thanks again Dr. Pousti, I will continue to recommend you every chance I get.
Tummy Tuck / Liposuction/Breast Reduction:
I am a 41 year old and have been fighting my weight gains and losses ever since I was 23 years old. In high school I thought I looked okay. It wasn’t until I married and had 2 children that my weight problem got serious. Every year the pounds just kept adding up until I was at 265 pounds and didn’t know how I got there. I tried many different weightless programs, and always seemed to put the weight back on just as fast as I lost it.
After 2 years of hard work at the gym and watching what I ate, I managed to loose 80 pounds, which left me with what I called my “skin tutu” around my middle and my breast hung down to my waist, which my kids referred to as my “cuddle buddies” because they laid on the bed next to me.
The more I lost the worst I looked! I wanted to love the body I worked so hard to get, but that isn’t what happened. The skin would just hang worse every pound I lost I wanted to love my body.
I started looking on the Internet at “mommy makeovers” before and after pictures, and at people like me who lost a lot of weight, and wanted the skin removed. I would say for every 10 women that I found, that I looked like in there before pictures, and loved their after pictures, 8 out of those 10 women were done by Dr. Pousti.
I looked at before and after pictures for at least a year prior to my surgery, wondering if I should do this or not. I was scared of what was involved and how I would look after. I didn’t want to look like one of those women who have surgeries and look worse afterwards.
Well, with the love and support of my fiancé, my children, my parents and my friends, I decided to make an appointment for a consultation with Dr. Pousti.
The day of my consultation, my fiancé and my mother came with me to my appointment. We went to Dr Pousti’s office in Murrieta, Ca. The moment I walked in, it felt so right. The women who work there were not just stunningly beautiful on the outside, but on the inside. They made me feel so comfortable and at ease! Dr. Pousti came in and looked at me and said he thought I would have amazing results. He suggested having an extended tummy tuck and a breast reduction, with some liposuction.
I weighted in at 207 and knew I had more weight to lose. I wanted to have this surgery in January when my business is slower. Dr Pousti suggested that an ideal weight he would like me to be for surgery was 180 pounds. Well, I was within a few pounds of my goal when surgery day arrived.
About 1 month prior to my scheduled surgery, my fiancé found out he had Thyroid Cancer. I wasn’t sure if I should cancel my surgery with Dr. Pousti. When I came in to see Dr. Pousti he could see I was nervous about my fiancé’s news. Dr Pousti asked who the surgeon was and he personally called every ENT Dr. That he knew to see if anyone had heard of this surgeon, and what his experience was. He called me personally the next day to tell me of his findings. Dr Pousti didn’t have to make those calls, but he did, and that meant the world to me. He doesn’t just care about me, but also about the man I love. My fiancé had his surgery and it was a success!
The day before my surgery my fiancé, and my mother came with me to Dr Pousti’s office in La Mesa ca. He did all his markings of what was going to remove, where he would cut and where he would lipo. He marked my breast so I would have my best results.
We stayed at my aunt’s house ,which was close to the surgery center, and is where I stayed for the first week after surgery. My mom was my nurse for the first week! I can’t thank her enough for helping me. I stayed at my aunts because Dr. Pousti wanted me to stay close by so he could check on me post surgery.
The day finally arrived, and we arrived at the surgery center. Dr Pousti uses the same surgery center, with the same anesthesiologist and the same nurses and assistants. I was so scared and everyone calmed me and made me feel comfortable and so special. They were very professional, and they had a way of making you feel like you were their only patient! Dr Pousti came in and checked his marking and did some minor adjustments, and then they took me back to the operating room. I woke up 8 hours later 6 hour surgery 2 hours of recovery, and I felt like I just got there.
The feeling I had was the feeling of tightness! I’m not going to lie week 1 was the hardest week but it was worth it! He installs a pain pump that numbs the incision area. I had 4 drains 2 from my breast and 2 from my pelvic area. They sent me home the same day of surgery. I really don’t remember too much as I was still really groggy.
I stayed at my aunts house and slept in a recliner for the first week. Dr Pousti and his wife were so kind to check on me the first night after surgery! They even brought me flowers! Never have I heard of a Dr. doing this before. The compassion and love he has for his patients is very apparent! He has always made me feel like I was his only patient, and his # 1 priority, even though I know he has many more patients.
The nurse or office staff called me everyday to check on me! Everyday was easier than the day before. I got around with my trusty walker, my BFF after surgery!
Dr Pousti told me that after surgery you go through an emotional state, but what found was not what I expected at all! I was expecting tears of pain and thought of regret, but that isn’t what I had at all! I never once thought why did I do this? The emotions I felt were eye opening to my life! The tears I shed were tears of love and joy and how lucky I am to have parents who took care of me for 6 weeks, a fiancé who supported me, no matter what I wanted to do, and my daughters, who stood by my side the whole time. Then the flowers, the cards, and the text messages came from friends, and clients thinking about me. The love I felt was overwhelming! Every tear I shed, were tears of joy of my life, my new body, and my new life to come!
This whole experience was the best thing I could have ever done! The most important thing is I truly feel like I was led to Dr. Pousti, and the results I got are amazing! He is a true artist of the body! He knows what will look the best and what is needed and not needed. He doesn’t just make you feel like he’s just your surgeon, but your friend, with your best interests in mind! The surgery is going to change my life for the better, and can’t thank him enough!
Abdominoplasty (Tummy tuck)
I am 41 with 3 children (ages 22, 18, and 11), and I am now 7 months post-op. I had breast augmentation, lipo, and extended tummy tuck with muscle repair with Dr. Tom J. Pousti (The GREATEST doctor EVER!!!) I have been thinking about having surgery for quite some time (20 years). I had stretch marks all over my stomach mostly from my first pregnancy, and since turning 40 I’ve noticed that my belly had begun to sag due to weight gain and weight loss which gave me a serious muffin top, and just looked nasty! I also had small breasts which made my proportions even worse! Through the years, I have gone to several other PS for consultations, and 2 years ago a friend of mine told me about Dr. Pousti. Apparently, she and a few other friends she worked with have had work done by Dr. Pousti, and were extremely happy with their results. A year and a half later, and after many visits to their website, I finally made an appointment for a consultation, and I was sold!
Dr Pousti and his staff were very professional, and listened to my concerns and wishes. They were able to provide me a visual of what size breasts would fit my body using a 3-D machine and using gel inserts of different sizes. I was also able to visit with other patients who had similar procedures performed, and hear about their own experiences. Everyone made me and my husband feel so comfortable.
I decided to have my surgery when the kids would be on summer vacation, and my husband took a couple weeks off of work. I have to admit, I’m not very good with blood and needles and surgery. So I was REALLY nervous, scared, and shocked that I actually was doing this. (Dr. Pousti was really great about giving me advice on how to calm my nerves.) My husband was even more shocked! I don’t think I slept at all the night before….
The day of surgery went by so fast. My husband (was a BMT nurse) took care of me throughout this whole journey. You really need to have someone who has a medical background because the first couple weeks was rough!!! The day after surgery, Dr. Pousti and his wife made a visit to our home to make sure my husband and I were doing okay. He answered all my husband’s questions and concerns. It meant a lot to have him there, made us feel like we weren’t all alone…especially for my husband. During the first week, I was in a lot of pain which was mostly from the bruises on my back (due to lipo) and breasts. My husband ended up buying me a recliner to sleep in, based on recommendations from other patients. It helped ease the pain, and made it a little easier to get in and out bed compared to a our real bed which was very uncomfortable because of the bruises on my back. My husband also had to empty out my drains a few times a day, and made sure I was taking my antibiotics and pain meds. I swear he didn’t get any sleep that first week. Fortunately, Dr. Pousti’s office called a couple times a day to make sure everything was okay, and to see if we had any questions.
The second week was a little worse because i developed a high fever and diarrhea. After seeing the doctor, it turned out that I was not eating enough and I was dehydrated. Per Dr. Pousti’s advice, I had to increase my protein and water intake, and made sure that I was taking all my vitamins (Multi-vitamins, vitamin C, Super B-complex, vitamin D, calcium) on a daily basis. After the first day, I was feeling much better…fever and diarrhea gone. Unfortunately, as a result of my sickness, my healing process slowed all the way down. The on top of that, I developed these huge blisters on my bum which were caused by the friction from the tape used to secure my bandages. I’ve never seen blisters so big before! Fortunately, those disappeared the following week.
The pain during the first 3 weeks is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I’d like to think I have a pretty high tolerance for pain, but nothing could ever prepare myself for the pain I felt after surgery. Before going into this, I told myself that I would only need to take some over the counter pain meds. Wrong! To top that off, my skin was reacting to the abdominal binder and paper tape used for my bandages. Thankfully, my husband was able to bandage me up without having the tape touch my skin at all. My entire body was a mess…I was actually brought to tears from the pain. I also went through a roller coaster of emotions. I was mad at myself for wanting to this. I was frustrated that I wasn’t healing as fast I thought I would because i gave myself 4 weeks to bounce back.., i totally underestimated the pain. I would cry because I thought I looked Frankenstein-ish. I started having regrets…thinking I had made a mistake. Then I started feeling guilty that I had spent all this money on myself. I was tired of feeling pain. I didn’t even allow anyone to visit me. Dr. Pousti was really patient, and he kept reassuring me it was normal to feel this way and it would pass. He would say, “Think of the end result….you will look amazing!” My husband did an awesome job of helping me stay positive, and telling me I was doing great!!! Heck, my husband is the best husband in the universe!!! This is really key….having a great support team!
So here I am 7 weeks post-op. Swelling is going down…almost done, but I can already see the results! Wow! I actually cried during my appointment with Dr. Pousti two days ago. I kind of weirded myself out, but It’s been so long since I had a small waist and a flat belly…and boobs!!! Everything is proportioned perfectly!!! Thank you so much for everything Dr. Pousti!!!!
Breast Augmentation / Tummy Tuck / Liposuction :
After having 7 kids I decided that I wanted to change my life and lose all the weight I had put on over the years. I did really good and lost about 70lbs. Imagine my disappointment, however, when I realized that it seemed almost all in vain. I didn’t see much of a difference because I had so much loose skin hanging. In fact, I thought I looked worse than when I had all the fat! I finally got the courage to start calling around and looking into a tummy tuck. After speaking to a few Dr’s I knew I had found the right one when I walked into Dr. Pousti’s office. The staff is fantastic and has always made me feel comfortable. Dr. Pousti is sincerely caring. You just know that you’ve made the right choice when you meet him. I was so pleased with my tummy tuck that I went ahead and had an arm lift, lipo and breast augmentation!! I have no regrets and the only advice I can give to anyone is to not wait and waste anymore time! I feel like he has given me a whole new life! Anyone would be shocked if they saw my before pictures!

I was very impressed with Dr. Pousti. I am a guy and have always had extra fat in my thighs/hips that I was never able to get rid of, no matter how much diet or exercise I did. I saw three doctors including Dr Pousti for a liposuction consultation. Dr Pousti listened to me and understood my situation. He was honest about what I could expect and didn’t try to sell me on anything. I trusted him, and he did a great job. His caring staff is superb.
My experience with Dr. Pousti and his staff has changed me forever. I had come to a point in my life that I had tomake a decision. I eat healthy, I exercise and no matter how lowe my body fat was, I could not loose weight in my “problem areas”. Ladies I think you know what I’m talking about. Genetics are evil in my family. I was unhappy with the way my clothes fit, the way I looked in a bathing suit and was tired of NEVER being able to find a good fit in a pair of jeans. I had done lots of reading and talking to people about plastic surgery in general. I spent a good 8 months thinking about it. I made the jump and started scheduling consultations. I had seen 2 doctors prior to my consult with Dr. Pousti and had just about given up. I had my consultation with Dr. Pousti and that is when I know he was the right doctor. He was kind, truthful and spent alot of time with me. I decided to have the surgery that minute. I was not leaving his office untilI had a surgery date. Dr. Pousti walked my through the whole process to make sure that things went smoothly and they did. The nurses were fabulous, the office staff was great! I can’t say enough good things about the whole experience. It has been almost 2 months after surgery and I look and feel great. It has changed the way I think about myself on the outside but more importantly on the inside. Thank you Dr. Pousti.

Dear Dr. Pousti –
I want to thank you for my new found self confidence. Prior to the surgical procedure, I often avoided social settings and had a fear of running into old friends who only knew me thin. Now I find myself excited at the prospect of running into people and having a visit without feeling self conscious about my appearance. I did not realize how much hiding I had been doing.
My quest for less neck and shoulder pain, as well as hoping to end the poor posture, rashes and rutted shoulders led me to explore breast reduction. I am also the youngest of three sisters and the other two are breast cancer survivors, so whether it is 100% medically proven or not, I wanted to have less mass for concern.
Two different friends recommended that I visit you. So, although I had a full authorization from my HMO for a different doctor, I requested a second opinion and I’m so pleased that I did! From the first phone call to schedule an appointment, I realized you had a staff that truly cares about the complete well-being of its patients. Your office is light and cheerful and my first encounter with you was so respectful. I remember on my first visit I told you that it didn’t matter much to me how I looked under my clothes; as long as I looked better when I was dressed. Your response was that it mattered to you and that you would make me look and feel beautiful.
The folks at the Surgical Center were very warm and helpful. I’d had concerns about having the procedure outside of a hospital, but now am glad for the personal care that I received at the Center.
Since my surgery I have found myself with more energy and my years of neck and shoulder pain from the weight have ended. And to walk into a store and purchase a pretty bra without steel reinforcements is quite an experience.
“Thank you” to you and your staff for giving me exceptional care. I gladly recommend you to any of my friends considering cosmetic surgery. I know it is a cliché, but truly, my only regret is that I didn’t do this year ago.

“I am a medical malpractice attorney, and recently had liposuction performed by Dr. Tom Pousti. Because of my professional experience, I’ve seen the good doctors, the bad and some ugly results on people who come to me as a last resort. They should have gone to Dr. Pousti first, for the reasons I did, and you should.
Some plastic surgeons, in Beverly Hills, tout themselves as “doctors to the stars”. I think a much more impressive byline would be “doctor to the lawyers”. Many a doctor would politely decline to perform an elective procedure on a lawyer for obvious reasons. Dr. Pousti, however, can boast of many lawyers who are his satisfied patients. And let me tell you, it takes a very confident and competent doctor to cut one of us!
Dr. Pousti is more than just competent. He is the very best plastic surgeon. He has top training, experience, employs cutting edge (no pun intended!), technical skills and performs artistry (a requirement as a plastic surgeon). Equally important, he has a wonderful bedside manner and he truly cares about his patients and their satisfaction. His staff is professional, as is the Grossmont surgical center where procedures are performed.
Liposuction, performed by a skilled plastic surgeon, is really “body sculpture, and can erase years of fat & flab which resists diet and exercise. For the first time in many years, after numerous diets, countess exercise programs, aerobic classes and personal trainers, my paunch and love handles are gone! And it only took one morning. My only question is why did I wait so long? The answer is: I didn’t know Dr. Pousti earlier. Thanks Dr. Tom Pousti. ”

I am a 24 year old women who recently had liposuction done to my abdomen, flanks and back area, and I can not begin to tell you how EXTREMELY happy I am with my results. During my high school years I really wasn’t to concerned about my weight, I figured I could lose a couple inches in my waist but I didn’t stress to much about it. It wasn’t until I joined the Marine Corps in 1999 that I began to really look at myself and realize that I wasn’t too happy with the way my body looked. I had nice legs, arms and even chest but my waist….well I just didn’t have one! When I put my uniform on I always felt “Fat”. I felt that I didn’t portray that Female Marine image. You know that slim, fit, small waist image? For years I would work out and try to watch what I ate, but I could never get the waist I wanted. As Marines we are responsible for maintaining a certain weight and body fat and I always met that criteria but I still felt overweight. I even went on the Atkins diet (which was a great diet) and exercised more then ever, but still no waist! Finally after talking with my mother and boyfriend, of 2 years, I decided to look into liposuction. I wasn’t too fond of the idea since I never had any type of surgery done to me, let alone be put to sleep for surgery and the thought of “Surgery” scared me. Yet I did my homework and found that this might just be my answer.
After about a month of research I narrowed my decision down to two doctors. Dr. Pousti and…well…we will call him “The other doctor’s office”. They both checked out great and met all of “MY” requirements. I figured I would go and visit both of them and make my decision then. I first visited with “The other doctor’s office” and found it to be a very nice environment. To my surprise though the staff didn’t seem too friendly. I almost felt like they were rushing me along with everything. The doctor did see me but he too made me feel like he was rushing me along. I felt so uncomfortable that I didn’t even get to ask all the questions I wanted to ask. After my visit the only thing I was really happy with was how much the procedure was going to cost me. A few days later I visited with Dr. Pousti’s office and from the moment I walked in I felt welcomed. It almost felt like I had known the staff for years. They made sure I was comfortable and encouraged me ask any questions I may have had. Even though there were other patients in the office that day I almost felt like I was the only one there. They really made me feel important. When I met with Dr. Pousti he took his time to really focus on my problem area and answer any questions I had. Towards the end of my visit the staff had informed me of what my procedures would cost me and I must admit at first I wasn’t sure, since “The other doctor’s office” was a bit less in price. That night I went home and talked it over with my mother and boyfriend and we all came to the same conclusion. I (we) would rather pay the extra few dollars to a doctor and staff who really care, take the time to answer my questions and make me feel comfortable, then to deal with a doctor and staff who seem to rush me along and not really care why I’m there.
The very next day I was back in Dr. Pousti’s office booking my surgery appointment. Every time I came by his office the staff would great me with smiles and some of them already knew who I was! They all made sure all my questions were answered and I that I always felt comfortable. The day of my surgery as I laid on the bed, going into my nice deep sleep before my procedure began, Dr. Pousti held my hand and said, ” Don’t you worry we will take care of you, just dream of being on the beach in the Bahamas!” and with that I knew I made the right decision in not only doing this operation but with choosing Dr. Pousti as my doctor. It has been 6 months since my surgery and I can’t not even put into words the happiness my surgery has brought me. I am now look in the mirror with confidence and smiling too! I wear my Marine Corps uniform with more pride then ever. Let me tell you taking all my uniforms in to be tailored because they were all to big… HA! That was the biggest smile ever! The best part of it all is that everyone can tell the differences!
On a final note I would say to anyone doing any type of surgery that they need to not only look at the price of the surgery but the environment as well. Remember you want to feel secure, welcome, comfortable and happy with not only the doctor but the staff too. They should all make you feel like your important, cause in reality…you are! Dr. Pousti’s office made me feel all of these feels and that is the biggest reason I chose him over all the other doctors in the San Diego area.
Thank you so much to Dr Pousti and his staff for not only making me look better in my every day clothes but in my uniform as well. I am now not only a better person but a better Marine too!!!! You have all made me a much happier person. I can’t wait for summer to come to show off my new body! I have already recommended your office to friends and even family members and will continue to do so even when I leave the San Diego area. Thank you again and you will all be in my thoughts and prayers now and forever!

Breast Augmentation/Breast lift/Tummy Tuck/Liposuction:
After years of dressing to camouflage my floppy breasts and saggy belly, and of having to exercise in long loose shirts and full support bras, and of pulling pillows up against my stomach when I was lying on my side (to hide the skin and flab beside me that was my constant sleeping companion), and of swatting away my partner’s hands when attempting to “caress” that part of my body – I finally decided to really do something about it. I had a tummy tuck, breast lift, breast enhancement, and some side liposuction. It is the best thing I have ever done for myself.
I am and have always been very athletic – walking, swimming, hiking, crunches, pushups, etc., and yet while my muscles are and were taut… the skin over the muscles, that had originally held all of my extra weight (mostly my breasts and belly), just stayed there. Strange as it sounds, the more weight I lost (35 lbs recently, but years ago 65 lbs after pregnancy) the worse my front side looked. I was and am at my ideal weight, yet my breasts were flat and hung down without any real mass to them, and the skin on my belly skin was marred with stretch marks which extended both over and under my natural “waste” line. When wearing anything other than granny underwear, the underwear would simply roll under my belly and stay there. And, although this is kind of personal it probably applies to at least some of you considering the procedure, I had a pooch of fat over “that” area… the pubic hair area. Nothing I did could get rid of the skin, the scars, and the sagging that started at my breasts and continued down my front side.
On my first visit, Dr. Pousti asked then really listened to my requests. I knew what I wanted done. I wanted all of my loose skin and flab removed, and nice natural B cup breasts with the fullness in the bottom, not the top. I brought in pictures of the big No-Nos, such as those huge bulbous breasts sitting on top of chests looking like hard immobile rocks, and I brought in pictures of natural looking breasts (some of which were the “before” pictures in Dr. Pousti’s albums). I brought in pictures of women with flat stomachs. Dr. Pousti was very patient with me and explained everything about each procedure. He kindly suggested/insisted that I come in and talk with other patients who had undergone the same procedures. On several more visits, I came in and talked privately with other women who had been through the various procedures. Every single patient I talked to had nothing but good words for and about Dr. Pousti and every single patient was happy with their results. Every visit with Dr. Pousti and his staff was positive and personal, and I never, ever felt like just another patient nor a dollar sign.
The week before surgery I was very, very excited and very, very scared. Scared that I would come out a surgical nightmare… what if my breasts were too high, too fake looking or lopsided… what if I ended up with a horrid scars under my breasts or on my belly or had lumps of fat here and there that the doctor couldn’t get rid of… what if I got infections… what if I ended up with ugly puckers on the ends of the scars… what if the results of the surgery were such that I STILL had to hide my body while naked??? Two days before my surgery was scheduled I almost canceled. I was a mess and, well, I was a big-old-baby (or perhaps a different “B” word would be a more accurate description, depending on who you ask). However, the feelings passed and I had surgery as planned. I woke up and it was as if the good-fairy had waived her magic wand over me. I could not be happier, and none, not one, of my pre-surgery fears came to fruition.
I now have a perfect set of natural looking full size B breasts, a completely flat stomach and a belly button of perfection! I wear a bikini (in public), can wear low-rise pants and shorts with tank tops, and can tuck in my shirts without seeing the usual middle-aged mom “tri-fold” (you know, bulge from boobs followed by bulge above the belt, followed by bulge below the belt). I can look down and SEE my pubic area – even when sitting!!! Please feel free to look at the pictures on the web site (I’m in the bikini “after” shot), but keep in mind that the pictures alone can not tell you how much my self-esteem has changed, or how much I now enjoy putting clothes on, or how much I now enjoy looking in the mirror every morning, or how much I love not having to grab something to cover myself up when naked so no one would see my embarrassing body.
The only thing, and I mean the ONLY thing that I would say to any woman considering the procedure is to realize that as you are talking to those of us who have gone through the procedure and who are (all of us) giddy with our new bodies and boosted body image – is to remind us to tell you about the surgery itself and the recovery. The actual surgery is a breeze from the patient’s standpoint. Everyone at the surgery center is sweet as can be and understanding, and you really won’t remember much about the ride home. The next day, however, is a different story. When the meds wear off – holy cow – it hurts ferociously. (Take the pain meds before you feel the excruciating pain come back.) The first three weeks are very, very, very painful – more than I had expected. You have to sleep sitting up with pillows behind you and under your legs for the first two to three weeks, then you have to lay flat on your back for another few weeks. You can’t stand up completely straight for many weeks. You have to be helped to get out of bed for the first several days. You will have disgusting drainage tubes sticking out of you which can pinch and pull, and when the Dr. removes them, it really hurts bad! But, as with childbirth, you sort of forget about it because you have something so special and so fantastic that the pain fades from your memory. With childbirth you have the miracle of a new and beautiful baby. With Dr. Pousti’s surgery, you have the miracle of a new and beautiful body. It is well worth it, and the pain just passes from memory. Yes, the recovery is slow, slow, slow – but then you wake up one day and find you are back to normal. Two weeks ago (at 7 weeks post surgery) I still couldn’t completely stand up straight, couldn’t walk more than a few blocks, and was certain that I would never be back to participating in athletics. Then, during my 7th and 8th week I recovered so fast and so completely that just two days ago, at nine weeks post tummy-tuck, breast lift, breast enhancement and liposuction – I successfully completed an eight-mile mountain hike. I’m back to doing everything I was doing before surgery. So, if you have the tummy-tuck with or without other procedures – be patient, baby yourself for the first two months, relax and it will all fall into place – and you will be happier than you can imagine.
Oh. The only other downfall is that you will need new clothes. Bummer. You’ll have to shop for new pants and jeans. Tee shirts and spaghetti strap tops. Shorts without pleats. Bathing suits. You will have to donate your long and loose fitting shirts and your pleated trousers (as you will have nothing left to fill in those pleats anymore). You have to start borrowing clothes from your high school or college-age daughters or nieces. You may have to go to Victoria’s Secret. And (after a full 6 weeks, so don’t bother thinking you will even consider it before then), you will have to fend off copious amounts of attention that your husband or partner will shower you with. You will have to “suffer” through the daily compliments from co-workers, friends, family and strangers on the street, such as, “Have you lost weight?”, “Are you working out?”, “My god, you look great!”. Lastly, though loath to admit it… before my surgery, not in my craziest dreams would I have imagined that a rude cat-call from a construction worker (one, that had it been made toward my daughter, would have made me seethe with anger) would later secretly make me smile in awe that I actually somehow looked attractive enough to warrant such rude behavior!
Dr. Pousti is the best. His staff is the best. His work is the best. I never, ever felt like just another patient. His staff was professional and treated me with respect (which isn’t easy when you are standing naked in front of the doctor and staff, with all of the flab and skin that you have spent years trying to hide just hanging out for inspection). I never ever felt in any way that Dr. Pousti ever touched me in an inappropriate way, nor that my privacy was disrespected. I have come in for multiple post op visits and he spends as much time and consideration with me as with any of my pre-surgery visits. He is a truly kind and thoughtful person, as well as an awesome surgeon and artist. I strongly recommend Dr. Pousti, and would be happy to speak with or show you the results of his skill in reshaping this middle-aged mom’s body into a very nice figure.

Breast Augmentation/ Liposuction :
Halo! I am a 31-year-old male who just recently had lipo of the abdomen, flanks, and lower back. I cannot express how pleased I am with Dr. Pousti’s work. To make a long story short, I had battled, since I was a youth, stubborn pockets of fat that seemed to be resistant to every type of exercise and diet. Even as a bodybuilder I just could not get rid of my gut, no matter how much cardio and dieting I did. It took me seven years to finally make the decision to have the surgery done, as I was in grad school out of state. I can tell you that within that time I had consulted with Doctors all throughout the L.A. area, but when I finally met Dr. Pousti I knew I had found the right doctor, for two reasons. First, he actually took the time to be very honest with me about what to expect and what not to expect. He listened to my concerns and answered every question I asked him with great honesty and integrity. Secondly, he did not come off as a businessman, but rather a doctor whose first priority was the quality of his work. His fees were very reasonably priced compared to other doctors I had seen who were quick to discuss their much higher than average fees up front. All in all the quality of Dr. Pousti’s work speaks for itself and is very reasonably priced. Not to mention, he is just an all around first class professional.
The actual surgery was a very positive experience. I was so impressed with how professional and caring his surgical staff was in the surgery room. They made me feel right at home. Before I knew it the surgery was over and I was on the road to recovery. Dr. Pousti also called me that night to discuss the surgery and how I felt, which was greatly appreciated. It is not a short trek from L.A. to San Diego but all the trips for the initial surgery to the follow-ups are all worth it. His office staff is especially nice and always very helpful. Lastly, let me just say how important it is when choosing a surgeon to choose wisely. I have heard many unfortunate stories from individuals who had substandard cosmetic surgery. If I were to do it all over again I would have no reservations about selecting Dr. Pousti.

I am a patient of Dr. Pousti and I live very close to the Philadelphia area. I had my procedure back in Sept. of 2001….I do and have in the past recommended Dr. Pousti to all my friends and family….his work is impeccable. He has the ability to look at the body with an artist over-all view to create shape, contour and balance. I found him to be soft spoken, extremely professional and polite before, during and after my procedure and my many office visits. He has a wonderful bedside manner and so does his office staff. They made me feel comfortable and at home, like a member of the family.
Liposuction: Stigall’s Story
After several years of fighting weight gain associated with a medical condition, my supportive wife suggested I research Liposuction as an alternative weight loss solution. I’d always considered liposuction to be a technique used by the idle rich, and “cheating”. If you couldn’t lose the weight yourself through exercise and diet, then you weren’t trying.
Six years ago, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. For those of you unfamiliar with the disease, the thyroid gland is a master control for your entire metabolism – similar to the gas pedal on an automobile. If the thyroid isn’t working, every part of your metabolism slows down.
To give you an idea of the severity of the symptoms, at the worst point I would call my wife to pick me up from work. By 3pm I was entirely drained of energy, and had even fallen asleep while driving the car home a few times.
The weight gain was extraordinary. I went from a 41 year old, muscular and fit man at 192 pounds to an “egg with legs” at 238 pounds over a period of eight months. Prior to the onset of the hypothyroidism, my workout schedule was two hours long (weights + aerobics) three times per week. Other physical changes included shoe size (9 ½ to size 10), waist size (34 to 38 inches) and neck size (15 ½ to 17 ½ inches).
I was unable to lose even ½ of the gained weight. When your metabolism is slow, it’s very difficult to lose any weight. I can be a very determined and stubborn individual (ask my loving wife) but I was unable to lose more than 1-2 pounds per a month. My doctor suggested I should be happy with this – it might be the best I could hope for. My perception of taking 20-40 months (2 to 3 years) to lose the additional pounds gained over eight months was depressing.
Jump in time to five years after the diagnosis…I’ve lost about 15 pounds, and stabilized at a plateau where I can’t loose any additional weight. I’m still considered “obese” on any measurement scale you care to name.
My wife and I have been married for over 23 years, and I consider her my best friend. She finally asked if I had looked into liposuction. My response was a flat no. I had several reasons for the denial:
1. I firmly believe that any gains must be earned. I was trying steadily to lose weight, and liposuction would be the admittance of defeat – I was unable to lose the weight by diet and exercise alone.
2. My perception of liposuction was “surgery of the stars”, where idle rich people paid to have their bodies sculpted according to their whims. I was not a big fan of the procedure, as you can tell. .
3. I’ve never had any surgery done in my life, and the idea of the process was chilling.
My wife encouraged me to look into the process. My friends call me a “data digger”, so I began digging up information on liposuction. Through the discovery process I found a local surgeon (Dr. Pousti), who was not only active on the web to answer Frequently-Asked-Questions (FAQs), but also sponsored meetings where people interested in cosmetic surgery could attend and talk with former patients about the surgery in question. You could actually talk to someone who had gone through same procedure you were considering, under the same doctor. I made an appointment with Dr. Pousti, bringing my medical history and research with me. Dr. Pousti started the interview process by stating about 80% of the people who meets with him are not good candidates for the procedure. After explaining my medical history and research to Dr. Pousti, I asked him if I was a “good” candidate for liposuction. I was prepared to walk away if the expert’s opinion was negative on the likelihood of benefiting from liposuction. Dr. Pousti explained the effects of the liposuction would not be as pronounced since my metabolism was slower than normal. I told him that even 5-10 additional pounds off would be more than the last 2 years of exercise had managed to remove. I knew my hypothyroidism would decrease the benefits of the liposuction, but Dr. Pousti told me that one waist size (38″ to 36″) and perhaps 10 pounds would be realistic expectations in my case. Final measurements would need to wait until about 3 months had passed. This would allow for all of the swelling to go down. After we talked some more about the process, I elected to go through with the surgery in late December 2004.
The first few days after the surgery are a blur. I woke up wearing the compression garment, required after the surgery. For the first week, I was under instructions to not remove the compression garment and I couldn’t shower. Baby wipes were used to keep my odor level within tolerable limits. I had major bruising near the locations used for the micro cannula (like a straw for the liposuction) to enter, and I was very sore. The first week I was on liquid foods, antibiotics and pain pills. By day 3, walking helped the pain quite a bit, and my nurse (aka the supportive wife) insisted on getting my walking exercise in worthwhile pursuits such as grocery shopping and getting the mail. She also developed a great right-hand grip from helping me out of the bed. My abdomen felt like one big bruise – turning over in my sleep and even rolling out of bed was painful during the first week. As the week passed, the majority of the soreness and bruising went away. By the end of the week I was eating solid foods and no longer using the pain medication.
I accepted a new job in Thousand Oaks and moved the next week from San Diego to Los Angeles with the help of a dear friend and his family. Dr. Pousti’s office was kind enough to reschedule my next follow-up visit on a Saturday when I could drive down from Los Angeles. I had another follow-up visit with the doctor one month after the surgery, and my recovery rate was better than both the doctor and I had expected. The doctor could tell I’d been working out.
One word of advice – get more than one compression garment. You’re required to wear them full-time (except to shower) for three months after the surgery, and my first garment is now ragged and has holes. I ordered two more compression garments to keep my original garment from getting too intimate with me.
It’s now March 2004, three months after my surgery, and I’ve already gone down one waist size. When I weighed this morning, the scale reported 208 pounds. My self-esteem is much better (back to my arrogant self) and I feel so much better about my body. I realize the doctor removed a “package” of fat, which might have never been removed by exercise alone due to a handicapped metabolism. The liposuction has helped my overall health and my self-image, as well as having long-term benefits (alleviating or eliminating type-2 diabetes later in my life).
The ongoing battle to maintain my weight will still be just as fierce as before. I have to work out regularly to keep the health and tone of my body, and my diet consists of eating small and healthy portions. Being “2-4” slimmer in the waist is great incentive! If anything, the process has served to increase my resolution to one day get back to 192 pounds.
I’m scheduled for my last follow-up visit with Dr. Pousti this weekend. I’d recommend Dr. Pousti to anyone considering cosmetic surgery. He is frank and takes the time to listen. He provided an excellent overview of the pros and cons prior to the procedure. My opinion of Dr. Pousti is he’s an artist that enjoys his work. His staff was just as wonderful, with care and attention shown at every step. I’d like to think my research led me to him, but there must be a little god-given luck involved for a 45-year-old man to feel this good again about himself.
