Post-bariatric & Massive Weight Loss Patients
Exercise and eating right are the best ways to lose weight. But many people have tried those methods for years and still can’t lose excess weight — weight that can cause serious health problems. For people in this frustrating situation, weight loss surgery (bariatric surgery) may be an option.

Weight-loss (bariatric) surgery changes the anatomy of your digestive system to limit the amount of food you can eat and digest. The surgery aids in weight loss and lowers your risk of medical problems associated with obesity.
Gastric bypass (bariatric surgery) isn’t for everyone with obesity. It’s a major procedure that poses significant risks and side effects and requires permanent changes in your lifestyle. Before deciding to go forward with the surgery, it’s important to understand what’s involved and what lifestyle changes you must make. In large part, the success of the surgery is up to you.
Following the significant amount of weight loss after a Gastric Bypass Surgery, a person can be left with a tremendous amount of excess, hanging skin throughout many areas of the body. The lack of elasticity of the remaining skin often causes excessive amounts of skin to accumulate and hang in various areas, including the face, neck, breasts, upper and lower abdomen, arm and/or armpit (axilla), back, buttocks, thighs, legs, and calves. This excess skin also can cause skin irritation, skin breakdown and infection.
Dr. Pousti performs all cosmetic procedures required to achieve the patient’s desired goal after massive weight loss. Such procedures include facelift, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), breast augmentation, breast lifting, arm lifting (brachioplasty), thigh lifting, breast reduction and more.

Patient Before / 6 Weeks After Abdominoplasty Surgery
I am scheduled to have surgery in a month, and I have to say the care that I have received from Dr. Pousti so far, is AMAZING! He has to be one of the kindest and most thoughtful doctors I have ever had. He has been incredibly patient answering all of my many questions, and he has showed amazing gentleness with my anxiety of having surgery done. He has never made me feel as though he had some place else to be or another more important patient to see. I love that he is selective in who he works on and that he isn’t just worried about his pocketbook, but that we, his patients, get amazing results. He makes you feel as though you are one of his family. You are one in a million, Dr. Pousti!
Updated on 9 Jul 2012:
I am two weeks post op. I had a breast lift/augmentation and got an extended tummy tuck. I haven’t seen all my results yet, but I know they are going to be amazing. I have the utmost confidence in Dr. Pousti. I can’t imagine now, ever going to another doctor. I am so glad to have found him.
5 years ago, I weighed 100 lbs. heavier than I am right now. It took me four years to get the weight off through diet and exercise. I went to see Dr. Pousti in December 2011 just so see what he had to say. I had gotten his name from a previous patient that raved about him and decided to see what he had to say. What I learned from him and about myself in the process is amazing. One of my favorite things about his office is that you get to meet actual people that have had actual surgeries and have real results. I could actually ask all the questions that I wanted to real people!! What a great concept!! It impressed me the most that he left me in the room with these patients and allowed me to ask all the questions that I wanted. LOVE IT!
It took me 4 visits to get all my questions answered and to calm my nerves about having surgery and doing the right thing for me and my body. I worked through a lot of emotions during that time, too. When you have been the “fat girl” for all of your life, it takes a process to learn how to be the “skinny” girl and to view yourself as that way as well. I really thought that if I just went to gym a few more times a week or just did a different type of exercise that my body would become one of those amazing bodies you see. It wasn’t until I spoke to Dr. Pousti that I learned that the skin wasn’t going to do anything else, no matter how many times I went to the gym or no matter how many marathons that I run.
So, after some serious consideration, I decided to have the surgery, and I can’t wait to see the results. Every day Dr. Pousti’s office has called to see if I have needed anything and if I am doing ok. Dr. Pousti even stopped by my house to check on me. WOW! Tell me where you find a doctor like that in this day and age!!!! He has called my house twice to be sure I am doing fine. I am so impressed with how amazing his office has been. They were very thorough in making sure I had all the information that I needed and was make sure I didn’t have any last minute questions.
If you are in need of a great surgeon, Dr. Pousti is it. Definitely well worth a consultation! Thank you, Dr. Pousti!
Patient Before / After Losing 180 lbs
TESTIMONIAL (Before Surgery):
Hi Dr. Pousti!!!
Before I ever have surgery, I just want to say thanks. Losing this weight has been an incredibly long and emotional journey, and I am getting very excited to see the benefit of all my hard work pay off. 100 lbs is NOT easy, and it is even harder to do over 4 years!!! But even after all the tears and frustrations, it is sooo worth it! I have had a few doctors in my short little life, and you are truly one of a kind. I left today knowing exactly that I had made the right choice coming to see you, and even though as nervous as I get, I know that I am in good hands with you.
I am blessed to be in the position that I am in to get surgery, and I am blessed to have been guided to your office. Good thing you have such great referrals from my friends!! They love you! Truly deserved!
Anyway, it is always easy for everyone to say thanks after their surgeries, but I wanted to say thanks before. Just wait ’til I am rocking that bikini and shippin’ ya pictures for your wall!
You are one in a million!
I was overweight as a child and got into fitness and lost major weight. After getting down to single digit body fat levels I was still missing my confidence. I spent years as a personal trainer and got very muscular bodybuilding but was still not able to take off my shirt at the beach due the excess skin I had around my waist and chest. I spent several years debating or not to get a tummy tuck and gynecomastia surgery to correct. I spent a long time researching Dr. Pousti and I was not disappointed. As man I was even more embarrassed getting cosmetic surgery. But as soon as I went into their office my fears subsided with their welcoming staff. Dr. Pousti is an excellent surgeon and he took an honest interest in my concerns and me as a person. I can’t thank him enough for the work he did and the reassurance he gave me along the way. My only regret is not moving forward with this procedure years ago.
So, it’s been just over a year since Dr. Pousti has done my surgery and I FEEL GREAT! I am back to my routine of exercise and fitness. Of course I have to keep my eating habits in place to continue to enjoy the benefits of my body. It’s not easy. It still requires discipline and consistency BUT it is worth it! I am grateful for the work that has been done and I highly recommend Dr. Pousti and his staff to any and everyone!
I am just over 5 months since my tummy tuck and I am feeling really well. I went to visit Dr. Pousti a week ago and he is very please with how well I am recovering. My incision is completely healed, no scabs left. I am keeping my weight down. Maintenance is hard but it is worth it. I am realizing that just because I had the surgery does not mean that I am not required to continue to eat well and exercise. That is probably the hardest part of the journey, continuing, but it is worth it in the end. My workouts consist of mostly cardio. I am still not released to do heavy lifting yet but I try to stay toned in my upper body by doing push ups.
This surgery is probably one of the best decisions I have made in my life so far. After losing 180 pounds and still having excess skin, I felt like I was trapped and not able to fully experience the benefits of the effort I had put in. So, I am happy and grateful.
So, my surgery was on September 24th and it’s almost been a month since the date. Time has just gone by so fast. I must say this has been quite a journey but pros have out-weighted the cons. I am still swollen from the surgery but my swelling has drastically decreased. Every week I just get smaller and smaller. I have been blessed with an amazing support system and I must say if you are going to do the surgery, make sure you have people in place to assist you and care for your during this time because for the first couple of weeks you can’t do much for yourself at all.
-I don’t have to look down and see what I call my “second stomach” ever again
-Dr. Pousti and his staff are so wonderful to me that I feel like I have a new extension to my heart and family
-Physically, I feel much better and am progressing quicker than I anticipated. I was told that has a lot to do with the fact that I worked out and took care of my body prior to surgery
-I get to look forward to go shopping for bathing suits and pretty underwear
-I AM FREE
-some sleepless nights due to uncomfortable sleeping positions
-pain (but the medication takes care of that)
-remaining in the hunched over position and walking with a walker but I’ve gotten pretty used to it
I’ve struggled with obesity the majority of my life. In 2007, when I was 21 years old I decided to fight for my life. I was at a high of 356 plus pounds and I decided to enter the journey of winning back a life for myself. Since then, I have lost 180 pounds, NATURALLY. I am so overwhelmed by Dr. Pousti’s love and generosity. His staff has been amazing, warm, and welcoming. Dr. Pousti makes me feel like I am his only patient and that I am important to care for. I thank God that He brought such an amazing surgeon my way! I will finally be able to experience the fruit of all of my labor. I get to experience life without the excess skin on my stomach. I am so overwhelmed, too overwhelmed for words.
I am a 41 year old and have been fighting my weight gains and losses ever since I was 23 years old. In high school I thought I looked okay. It wasn’t until I married and had 2 children that my weight problem got serious. Every year the pounds just kept adding up until I was at 265 pounds and didn’t know how I got there. I tried many different weightless programs, and always seemed to put the weight back on just as fast as I lost it.
After 2 years of hard work at the gym and watching what I ate, I managed to loose 80 pounds, which left me with what I called my “skin tutu” around my middle and my breast hung down to my waist, which my kids referred to as my “cuddle buddies” because they laid on the bed next to me.
The more I lost the worst I looked! I wanted to love the body I worked so hard to get, but that isn’t what happened. The skin would just hang worse every pound I lost I wanted to love my body.
I started looking on the Internet at “mommy makeovers” before and after pictures, and at people like me who lost a lot of weight, and wanted the skin removed. I would say for every 10 women that I found, that I looked like in there before pictures, and loved their after pictures, 8 out of those 10 women were done by Dr. Pousti.
I looked at before and after pictures for at least a year prior to my surgery, wondering if I should do this or not. I was scared of what was involved and how I would look after. I didn’t want to look like one of those women who have surgeries and look worse afterwards.
Well, with the love and support of my fiancé, my children, my parents and my friends, I decided to make an appointment for a consultation with Dr. Pousti.
The day of my consultation, my fiancé and my mother came with me to my appointment. We went to Dr Pousti’s office in Murrieta, Ca. The moment I walked in, it felt so right. The women who work there were not just stunningly beautiful on the outside, but on the inside. They made me feel so comfortable and at ease! Dr. Pousti came in and looked at me and said he thought I would have amazing results. He suggested having an extended tummy tuck and a breast reduction, with some liposuction.
I weighted in at 207 and knew I had more weight to lose. I wanted to have this surgery in January when my business is slower. Dr Pousti suggested that an ideal weight he would like me to be for surgery was 180 pounds. Well, I was within a few pounds of my goal when surgery day arrived.
About 1 month prior to my scheduled surgery, my fiancé found out he had Thyroid Cancer. I wasn’t sure if I should cancel my surgery with Dr. Pousti. When I came in to see Dr. Pousti he could see I was nervous about my fiancé’s news. Dr Pousti asked who the surgeon was and he personally called every ENT Dr. That he knew to see if anyone had heard of this surgeon, and what his experience was. He called me personally the next day to tell me of his findings. Dr Pousti didn’t have to make those calls, but he did, and that meant the world to me. He doesn’t just care about me, but also about the man I love. My fiancé had his surgery and it was a success!
The day before my surgery my fiancé, and my mother came with me to Dr Pousti’s office in La Mesa ca. He did all his markings of what was going to remove, where he would cut and where he would lipo. He marked my breast so I would have my best results.
We stayed at my aunt’s house ,which was close to the surgery center, and is where I stayed for the first week after surgery. My mom was my nurse for the first week! I can’t thank her enough for helping me. I stayed at my aunts because Dr. Pousti wanted me to stay close by so he could check on me post surgery.
The day finally arrived, and we arrived at the surgery center. Dr Pousti uses the same surgery center, with the same anesthesiologist and the same nurses and assistants. I was so scared and everyone calmed me and made me feel comfortable and so special. They were very professional, and they had a way of making you feel like you were their only patient! Dr Pousti came in and checked his marking and did some minor adjustments, and then they took me back to the operating room. I woke up 8 hours later 6 hour surgery 2 hours of recovery, and I felt like I just got there.
The feeling I had was the feeling of tightness! I’m not going to lie week 1 was the hardest week but it was worth it! He installs a pain pump that numbs the incision area. I had 4 drains 2 from my breast and 2 from my pelvic area. They sent me home the same day of surgery. I really don’t remember too much as I was still really groggy.
I stayed at my aunts house and slept in a recliner for the first week. Dr Pousti and his wife were so kind to check on me the first night after surgery! They even brought me flowers! Never have I heard of a Dr. doing this before. The compassion and love he has for his patients is very apparent! He has always made me feel like I was his only patient, and his # 1 priority, even though I know he has many more patients.
The nurse or office staff called me everyday to check on me! Everyday was easier than the day before. I got around with my trusty walker, my BFF after surgery!
Dr Pousti told me that after surgery you go through an emotional state, but what found was not what I expected at all! I was expecting tears of pain and thought of regret, but that isn’t what I had at all! I never once thought why did I do this? The emotions I felt were eye opening to my life! The tears I shed were tears of love and joy and how lucky I am to have parents who took care of me for 6 weeks, a fiancé who supported me, no matter what I wanted to do, and my daughters, who stood by my side the whole time. Then the flowers, the cards, and the text messages came from friends, and clients thinking about me. The love I felt was overwhelming! Every tear I shed, were tears of joy of my life, my new body, and my new life to come!
This whole experience was the best thing I could have ever done! The most important thing is I truly feel like I was led to Dr. Pousti, and the results I got are amazing! He is a true artist of the body! He knows what will look the best and what is needed and not needed. He doesn’t just make you feel like he’s just your surgeon, but your friend, with your best interests in mind! The surgery is going to change my life for the better, and can’t thank him enough!
Hi, my name is cut-tie.
I have lived in Ca. my entire life. I have been a still am every excited that Dr. Pousti, has done my extended tummy tuck.
Throughout the years I am a 43 year old young lady. My body was not looking right at all. Completely out of shape.
I had weight gain, later weight loss. Eventually, I had to do something. I researched Dr. Pousti. I went to the extreme of contacting old testimonials. Just to give me that very much needed peace of mind.
His office staff absolutely very professional.
The young ladies @ Dr. Pousti office are all very qualified and charming. Most important to me though, is there strong ability to empress empathy and kindness.
I say this because I did have a incredible out of shape body. I just never felt right. My morbid obesity took all the self confidence and even my self worth.
The young ladies at Dr. Pousti’s office all very caring. Margie , and Especially Daisey. These young ladies are more than qualified. Have a sweet spirit.
Never did I feel ugly or as if I was being judged.
The entire office staff made me and my family feel I was in good hands.
I have always been extreme nervous to show or let anyone see my body naked.
to the point I would shower with the lights off.
Now I love to see my body. I now shower with the lights on.
Daisy and her staff made me relax. and just enjoy the entire experience.
From beginning to end.
Dr. Pousti’s hands are anointed. I truly believe this. He has angelic hands. Because of his specialty knowing how to put back a woman’s body I am completely healed.
No pain no slowness I feel and look 100% beautiful.
Dr. Pousti, has-and did make me feel very nice.
That I plan to do more plastic surgery in the future. I trust my body, my life,….to one man only. Dr. Pousti.
Currently I try to exercise a few times per week. To maintain my tight shapely tummy.
Now it is my joy to exercise. I love my body shape and the new image this surgery has given me, inside out.
I look and feel Great!
LOOK ABSOLUTELY AMAIZINE!
Thank You Dr. Pousti and staff.
Well it’s been a year and how my life has changed. I do not
miss the 30 pounds of skin it has been a blessing in all aspects of my life. No sores under the belly, the right side you cut out the psoriasis (a good side effect) I can drive more efficiently, better sex, walking much better without as much back pain, I can put on my socks & shoes plus I can tie my shoes, I have more energy so I can cook, wear pants (and get compliments) no more MUMU’S. Thanks more than you can know. See you soon.
I am a skeptic and don’t easily trust the opinions of others, especially when I think they’re being overly effusive with their praise. As I was sitting in Dr. Pousti’s waiting area reading patient testimonials as I awaited my first consultation with him, I thought to myself, “Wow, all of these patients are gushing about Dr. Pousti – can he possibly be as wonderful as everyone seems to be saying? It doesn’t seem possible.” Imagine my surprise and delight when I found that Dr. Pousti was/is, in fact, as wonderful as everyone says. He’s warm, honest, calm, and genuinely interested in the goals of his patients. He was incredibly patient, wanting to answer any and all questions I had – and never once did I feel like I was taking up a minute of his time. His demeanor, obvious vision & talent (check out the TON of before and after pics on his web site), integrity (I was incredibly impressed to see that he lists price ranges on his web site – something almost no other doctor does), and clear desire to ensure his patients are comfortable and well-informed (how great that he provides info on his web site on how to prepare for your consultation, and makes it possible for potential patients to consult with post-op patients) convinced me that Dr. Pousti was the only choice for performing the multiple procedures in which I was interested (breast lift & augmentation, arm lift, and tummy tuck).
And what an excellent decision that was! I could not be happier with the results of my procedures. I worked very hard over a three year period to lose approximately 135 pounds, and it was incredibly important to me to have the best work done on my body as possible. Everything went really well with the actual surgery, and my recovery has been great, too. I appreciated the frequency of my post-op visits with Dr. Pousti – made me feel well taken care of and gave me a boost of energy and excitement to help me stay positive! And his staff has been wonderful, too – especially Daisy & Vanessa, the two who have helped me most during my recovery. They are lovely, warm, caring individuals who took great care of me! I’m currently 9 weeks post-op, and still have a bit of healing to do, but from my perspective the results are already phenomenal. I’m actually happier with my breasts than I expected to be, and my belly and arms are awesome! Thank you so much, Dr. Pousti! You are truly an amazing surgeon and an extraordinary person!
