Q&A: I’M UNHAPPY WITH MY BREAST SIZE AFTER SURGERY. WILL THEY CONTINUE TO GROW?

"I had a breast lift with augmentation and ended up with a 36c, and I’m almost 1 month post op and unhappy. Will I get bigger with the 400cc I received? 5’6, 160lbs."

DR. POUSTI: Breast Size after Surgery?

Thank you for the question. At this stage (is one month after surgery) it is too early to evaluate the results of your procedure.

I have found that it is very difficult to predict whether the breasts will look smaller or larger as breast implants settle. One of the factors involved is swelling; as swelling dissipates the breasts may appear smaller. On the other hand, as breast implants settle (“drop and fluff”), the breasts may appear larger (believe it or not).

I would suggest continued patience and follow up with your plastic surgeon.

Best wishes.

Breast reduction surgery is one of the most patient pleasing operations performed by plastic surgeons. Patients requesting this operation have often suffered from chronic neck, back, and shoulder discomfort secondary to the very large breasts.

Sub-Glandular to Sub-Muscular Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is one of the most commonly performed procedures performed by plastic surgeons worldwide. Although the submuscular or “dual plane” positioning of breast implants is most commonly used today, this was not always the case.
